Point-locating Fiber Optic Sensor for Detecting Data Conduit TPI
The FiberPatrol FP1150 advanced fiber optic sensor detects third-party interference (TPI) to fiber optic data links and other cable infrastructures. The FP1150 requires just one optical fiber to detect potential TPI events anywhere along the cable’s pathway, and determines and reports the precise location of each event.
How It Works
FiberPatrol transmits pulses of laser light into a single-mode optical fiber and accurately measures the minute light reflections that occur along its length. A disturbance of the fiber caused by TPI activity changes the amount of light returned from that point. FiberPatrol’s reflectometry-based technology does not require the light to traverse the full length of cable. If a cable is cut, FiberPatrol retains the ability to detect and locate TPI events up to the point of the cut.

Data Conduit TPI Detection
Within the first 40 km of each sensor channel the FP1150 detects hand and machine digging at distances of up to 20 m (66 ft) and the movement of heavy vehicles at up to 30 m (100 ft). At the maximum sensor length of 50 km (31 mi) these typical lateral detection distances are halved.
The FP1150 uses single-mode fiber within telecommunications-grade cable. The sensing function requires one fiber.
Detection and Location of Simultaneous TPI Events
The FP1150 accurately locates TPI events even when there are multiple simultaneous TPI events or in the presence of non-localized environmental noise. Alarms may be reported by zone number, cable distance and/or GPS coordinates.
Continued Detection and Ranging After Cable Cut
If the sensor cable is cut, the FP1150 immediately reports the incident and its location. Moreover, the sensor retains the ability to detect and locate intrusions right up to the point of the cut.
The FP1150 uses the same integration software as other Senstar products, reducing training requirements while increasing operational efficiencies. Alarms, control, and status information is managed by the Network Manager software, which provides a common unified interface for Senstar’s video and security management software as well as other industry-leading third-party systems.ut.
